How can I help?
Allinllachu (Hello in Quechua)! My name is Joicy and I am a Queer Quechua Peruvian immigrant. I founded Salgado Psychotherapy to continue amplifying more spaces where healing can happen. As a psychotherapist, by vocation, I am currently licensed to provide therapeutic services in the state of New York.
Community takes the center stage in my life’s work. Whether that is inviting clients to think of their community and cultivate intentional interpersonal relationships or thinking of our collective joy and grief, I am guided and guide people to explore the self in relation to community. It is within our circles that through conversation and exploration we are all able to become aware of patterns created through our life experiences, develop healthy ways to navigate interactions, and have the opportunity to live a stable and healthy life. There is no “one size fits all” approach to therapy. I utilize a combination of practices with a focus on liberation psychology, psychodynamic, humanistic, decolonized approaches to healing. I believe that exploring current situations paired with reflecting on past experiences as well as considering ancestral history, can be a recipe to develop awareness which can drive the process of change in people; if they so desire.
Allyship, privilege, racism, homophobia, colorism, history of colonization on mental health, intersectionality, amongst other related, are some topics that will be brought up and discussed within the therapeutic process.
